There are more than 600 golf courses throughout North Carolina and 1,500 lakes that are 10 acres or more in size. North Carolina also has more then 37,000 miles of freshwater streams. For those that hike and bike, there are 33 miles of developed and 147 miles of undeveloped greenways in Mecklenburg County and 27 greenway areas in the Triangle that encompass more than 40 miles. The Triangle Area has 163 parks and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Area has 210 parks for outdoor recreation.

Arts & Entertainment

North Carolina is a mecca for the physical, visual, and performance arts. There are literally hundreds of arts-and –crafts festivals held annually throughout the state. Sanford, a short drive from the Triangle, boasts the largest pottery festival in the Southeast. You can also find hidden treasures at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds’ flea market. Raleigh is often called the “Smithsonian of the South” because of its 23 free attractions and the high quality of its state museums. Exploris, the only interactive museum in the world also boasts an IMAX theater. If it’s the ballet, opera or symphony that you love the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte or the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh.
