LEED Accredited Team Expands

RTP, N.C. – April 30, 2009 –The John R. McAdams Company continues to expand its LEED accredited team. Ryan Akers, PE, a project manager in the company’s land development division, recently attained his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) AP accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council.
As a project manager, Akers is responsible for civil design aspects; coordinating the concept, infrastructure design, survey and construction services components through the development process. His accreditation will allow him to facilitate the sustainable design and construction in client’s projects earlier in the development process. The ultimate goal to proactively integrate “green” development practices into projects when the costs can be mitigated rather than an afterthought add on.
The McAdams Company has long been an advocate for promoting and facilitating sustainable development practices. Akers’ accreditation furthers the company’s mission to continue exploring opportunities to earn LEED credits for its projects from site selection through the completion of a project. “Ryan, as well as our entire LEED accredited team, is very familiar with the LEED Green Building Rating System. Our company has worked on numerous LEED accredited projects throughout the state and has even participated in pilot programs,” said Bill Derks, director of land development. “Expanding our LEED accredited team furthers our longstanding commitment to practicing what we preach in regards to being a strong supporter for sustainable development work.”
LEED AP candidates must have building industry knowledge as well as experience working with green building professionals from multiple disciplines. The LEED AP credential signifies an extraordinary depth of knowledge in green building practices and specialization in a particular field: commercial design and construction, commercial operations and maintenance, commercial interiors, residential design and construction, and neighborhood development.
