The John R. McAdams Company’s Wetland and Stream Restoration Expert Co-Authors Article in Journal of Environmental Engineering
RTP, N.C.-February 28, 2008-The John R. McAdams Company announced today that Jim Halley, its senior project manager in the stormwater and environmental division, co-authored an article running in the current issue of Journal of Environmental Engineering.
The article is titled “Design and Performance of Multipurpose Constructed Wetland and Flow Equalization Basin.” The article highlights the challenges of a railroad company facing a stormwater permit revision causing the company to reevaluate its approach to retaining and treating stormwater from its rail yard. The challenge involved stormwater coming into contact with industrial areas of the yard involved with locomotive fueling and servicing operations. Impacting stormwater with industrial pollutants would limit the effectiveness of the current stormwater system for improving water quality. The article goes on to detail the solutions designed to address the stormwater issues. Adding a network of riparian plants as well as redesigning the pond into a constructed wetland increased the ability to treat stormwater runoff.
“We’re always pleased to have one of our employees published,” said John McAdams, founder and president of The John R. McAdams Company. “Jim is a highly respected expert in wetland and stream restoration. This article is just one example of how our experts are leaders not only in their respective fields but also in the engineering industry.”
Halley co-authored the article with David E. Schaad, Walter “Brent” Chambers and Scott Denson.
