Wetland Impact Fees May Increase by 36%
The Environmental Management Commission has approved an increase in EEP fees from $245/unit to $332/unit. The $332/unit fee would apply in “urban areas” of the state. The North Carolina Home Builders Association and others object to the increase primarily because the EEP’s “urban areas” do not correlate with the EEP’s hydrologic units. Currently, the EEP has stated publicly that their average cost statewide is $293/unit. If the EEP makes the case that their fees need to increase, this could become costly for projects across North Carolina.
