Aberdeen Commons - Retail - Aberdeen, North Carolina

Faison Enterprises redeveloped a former Kmart site in Aberdeen, North Carolina into a retail center now known as Aberdeen Commons. The retail space was a welcome addition to the local economy that also rejuvenated a defunct property and added to the city’s commercial tax base.

The design and layout of the center was accomplished in two phases. The first phase featured a space configuration that met the standards for national retailers, attracting tenants such as Best Buy, PetSmart, Ross, Rack Room Shoes, and Bed, Bath & Beyond. McAdams Company staff was able to provide prompt results that met all of the pad delivery schedules of the national retailers. The second phase consisted of oversized outparcels that then became home to Moe’s Southwest Grill and Panera Bread.

The proposed redevelopment received a large amount of support from the City of Aberdeen and Moore County, enabling the permitting process to proceed smoothly. Challenges did exist in the old site infrastructure, which was outdated and inadequate. The McAdams Company utilized creativity to update the infrastructure systems so that they would effectively serve the 120,000 sf retail center.
