Briar Chapel Village Center - Mixed Use - Chatham County, North Carolina
The village center is envisioned as the central community gathering place of Briar Chapel, where people can walk and mingle with others. It is a place to bump into old friends or casually meet new people on the way to the market, shops, or library. Here you can gather for community events like a farmer’s market or an arts festival in the village green. Or, have a seat and quietly savor a cup of coffee and a book under the shade of the old oak and sweet gum trees while watching others stroll by. The village center is the foundation of a larger community where neighbors are friends and the neighborhood is home.
The layout of the village center was derived from a broad array of precedents and pattern studies, encompassing community gathering places from around the world. In addition, parks and green spaces were designed based on context and built around natural features.
The village center is a unique place because of its relation to the site, yet also an inherently familiar place due to the historic nature integrated into its design. When completed, it will serve as an anchor for the Briar Chapel development.
