Altman Develops Highlands at Brier Creek
The swiftly growing Brier Creek development, located off of I-540 near the Raleigh Durham International Airport, continues to garner accolades as one of Raleigh’s finest places to live. Altman Development Company’s Highlands at Brier Creek, one of the areas newest multi-family projects, is scheduled for completion in 2007 and will deliver 350 units and on a 21-acre site that includes two stormwater ponds.
Altman relied on the Firm to guide them through the City of Raleigh’s approval process while providing complete civil engineering services.
One of the initial challenges the McAdams team faced involved a small patch of land that required special coordination between the master developer, City of Raleigh, and the client in order to connect to an existing City sewer forcemain. McAdams provided design that called for the replacement of the forcemain with gravity sewer, saving the City of Raleigh in operations and maintenance costs.
The Firm’s storm water experts also provided a unique dual-storm pond design, which required a delicately phased erosion control plan. Originally, the storm water pond’s discharge impact was determined to be too great downstream causing Altman to face an elaborate and costly design revision to meet discharge requirements. As a result of McAdams storm water department’s coordination with the master developer; the pond was reassessed, allowing Altman to utilize their original design, saving them from significant expense.
