Merck Durham Facility - Office/Industrial - Durham, North Carolina

Merck’s selection of Treyburn Corporate Park in Durham, North Carolina as the location for its new vaccine production plant was great news for the Triangle area. The facility went fully operational in 2008 and is producing two extremely important vaccines, which will be available beginning in 2009. The completed campus will include 272,000 SF of building space (developed over multiple phases) on 265 acres and eventually employ over 300 workers.

Merck retained The John R. McAdams Company to provide engineering services on their time-sensitive project. McAdams delivered a mass grading plan and site work for the Phase I underground utility system. The McAdams team coordinated with Merck’s national general contractor and their international pharmaceutical team on the first phase, which consisted of 167,878 SF on 189 acres. The complex project required design and planning for temporary gates, access management, in conjunction with restricted personnel areas, as well as sequenced certificate of occupancy for the series of buildings.

The John R. McAdams Company is proud to be a part of a successful project that has such an international impact.
