Providing a Special Village for Cary’s Finest

Searstone - Senior Living Communities - Cary, North Carolina

SearStone, scheduled for completion in mid-2009, is destined to be a community unlike any other. Built on a portion of the remaining 75 acres of Cary’s historic Sears family farm by architect Bill Sears, this project’s vision reflects the dream of elegant and vibrant living.

The continuing care retirement development, targeted for those aged 62 and “better”, is located on 25 acres and will include 46 duplex dwellings, 232 apartments, 23 condominiums, a clubhouse, and a 155-bed healthcare center. A 2.5-acre lake, surrounded by hardscape and a decorative railing, will serve as the centerpiece of the village, providing an area the general public and age-restricted population can enjoy. The clubhouse will offer outdoor seating where meals will be served lakeside.

The new Specialty Village model is an intentional departure from the spread-out, car-centered, suburban way of life. It will deliver walkable, variety-filled neighborhoods with lively, shared public spaces, surrounded by an array of residence choices. Meticulous planning will put everyone’s daily desires within easy reach – and key goods and services within a 5-minute walk.

Phase II of the project includes construction of a conservatory that will provide cultural functions and activities.

Mr. Sears has selected McAdams Company to guide him through the Town of Cary’s complex zoning, annexation and site plan approval processes. McAdams professionals immediately faced the difficult challenge of designing within the guidelines of very specific zoning conditions, which limited the flexibility to make even minor changes to the site. Today, McAdams is pleased to report that zoning ordinances have been successfully amended, allowing the project’s site plan to proceed through the Town’s review process.

The McAdams team is also providing site layout, grading, erosion control, utility and landscaping design, as well as facilitation of the site’s lot recombination.
