The Shoppes at Midway Plantation - Shopping Centers and Malls - Knightdale, North Carolina

If a retail center’s name ever incorporated history, The Shoppes at Midway Plantation does. The 476,000 SF, anchor loaded, regional retail center was developed by Kimco Realty and Wakefield Associates, where the old Midway Plantation home had stood since 1848. The $48 million project includes such prestigious anchors as Target and Home Depot, and is the first of its kind in eastern Wake County. The center, flanked by the new six-lane I-540 and U.S. 64, makes it the next big interchange in the County with much growth to follow.

Kimco, the nation’s largest owner and operator of shopping centers, and Wakefield Associates, retained the firm to provide a continuum of services including zoning administration, planning, civil engineering design, stormwater management, construction observation, stakeout, and as-builts. Our stormwater experts created an innovative design, utilizing stormceptors, to provide satisfactory water runoff treatment, an issue highly scrutinized by the site’s neighbors. The project included the construction of over two miles of sanitary sewer outfall, traversing five jurisdictions and constructed in just three months. The development team also provided extraordinary erosion and sedimentation control throughout construction. In fact, the project was nominated for The Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Urban Conservation Award. It has also been awarded the Triangle Business Journal’s “Space” Award for Top Retail Development Project for 2007. The project was designed, permitted, and under construction in an unheard of four months.
