Streets at Southpoint Mall - Shopping Centers and Malls - Durham, North Carolina

The Streets at Southpoint Mall is a 1.3 million SF regional mall with an attached open air lifestyle center. The hugely successful regional mall includes such prestigious anchors as Nordstrom, Macy’s and Hudson Belk. The lifestyle center includes nationally recognized names like Barnes & Noble, Maggianno’s, The Cheesecake Factory and Crate & Barrel. It is the focal point of South Durham’s impressive explosion of retail development. The Streets at Southpoint is flanked by its neighbors, Renaissance Village, a 400,000 SF office/retail project and Renaissance Center, a 751,515 SF mixed-use center.

Urban Retail Properties retained McAdams Company in 1997 to guide them through the master planning, design and approval processes for this highly publicized, controversial project. The development, located between two major interchanges on U.S. Interstate 40, represented the first of its kind in Durham. McAdams Company’s reputation and relationship with the City of Durham were vital in achieving the necessary annexation and subsequently required approvals and variances. The project included the redesign and reconstruction of two large interchanges, a 3,500 LF City of Durham collector road, and design of the 6,400 parking space parking lot. McAdams provided unparalleled consultation and coordination in the engineering, stormwater design and complex permitting and approval processes as well as the entire construction process to assure a timely achievement of a certification of occupancy, paving the way for a fast-track project, which from concept to opening took less than five years to
complete.
